Chair seated side stretch helps you to open the side of the body and to relax any tension in the back, arms and shoulders.
Sit comfortably in a chair with feet planted on to the floor. Engage the core muscles and roll the shoulder blades down the back opening the chest.
Hold the side of the chair for support or rest your hands on your knees or thighs.
Relax and take a couple of deep inhalations and exhalations.
On the next inhalation raise your right hand overhead.
Gently begin to lean to the left stretching the right arm over your head to the left hand side. Try to keep the arm in line with the right ear.
Hold on to the left hand side of the chair for support and balance.
Gaze forward, keeping the neck in a neutral position. Hold for 5 to 10 breaths.
On an exhalation bring the right arm back down to your right side. Sit up tall and take a couple of deep inhalations and exhalations.
Repeat to the left side. Repeat the exercise 2 to 3 times, stretching a little more each time.
