Autumn is a time of change, a time when nature starts to slow down ready for the deeper sleep of winter and our own energy levels adjust to the changing hours of daylight.
But the longer nights can also bring comfort, a rest from the high energy that flows through the summer months and an opportunity to slow down, look inwards and embrace a change of pace.
In yoga we also embrace this change recognising how important it is to maintain an internal balance in all aspects of our practice. It gives us the opportunity to include more Yin asanas, going deeper into each pose and holding them for longer which improves circulation while helping to relieve stress, something we could all use before the start of the festive season!
Autumn is also an ideal time to focus on breath awareness and meditation helping the mind adjust to this period of change and transformation. Hence we should also practice more Yoga Nidra taking us into a deeper, guided meditation for longer periods slowing down the mind and body ideally to a state between waking and sleeping – exactly the same as nature!
Come and join us at one of our warm, intimate and relaxing classes in Buntingford or Great Hormead and embrace the season.
